Tis the Season for a New Dining Table

Maybe it's just the season, but I can't stop thinking about upgrading my dining room table. The one I have is fine really, mid-century design with great open-backed chairs and enough leaves to seat 10 people. To avoid marking the wood surface from wine glasses and hot plates, I have to drag all the mats out of the closet, cover the table and add a tablecloth. Not my idea of low maintenance. I want a table that can be lived with. One that my husband can put his coffee cup on. One that picks up more character with the amount of dings and damages it survives over the years. Something not so precious.

And I have found it. (Well, I've found three)

The Viva Terra reclaimed Railroad Tie Dining Table. Shown here with chairs, which I'm not entirely sold on. The whole thing might be a little too rustic for me, although in terms of the eco-design, and wearability of the wood, it's exactly what I'm after. A maybe, depending on what I could come up with for seating.

Both of these beauties are from Hudson Furniture. This company creates elegant and sophisticated designs with an organic feel and sustainable parts. Its wood slabs are sourced domestically from storm damaged and salvaged trees.
