Mailbox makeover
While driving to my favorite little Italian deli for some grocery shopping, I found myself on a long suburban road. You know the kind -- new build after new build. Perfectly manicured lawns, shiny SUVs, and no sidewalks to speak of. And lack of sidewalks can only mean one thing -- road-side standing mailboxes.
I can't remember the last time I saw something so appalling. The mailboxes were just plain ugly. Apparently the neighbors got a bulk rate on those nondescript plastic mailboxes in the very appealing shades of hunter green or sandstone. And then there were the rusted metal ones on weathered wooden poles. For people so obsessed with grass height and fresh mulch, I can't imagine how they could show such a lack of concern when it comes to their mailbox -- which stands front and center of their homestead.
I was so distracted by the situation that I blew not one, but two stop signs. Not only are these mailboxes aesthetically offensive, they prove to be a safety hazard.
Lucky for you, and your fellow motorists, I have found a few modern alternatives.
