Black is the new bathroom white

Back in black Be it black brassware or a contemporary black ceramic bath suite by Burgbad – black made waves at ISH 2009. And from black accents to the total black ceramic bathroom collection by GSG – there is something about the color that infuses instant sophistication and a chic sensibility into any space. Some have even gone as far to say that black is the new white for the bathroom.

Mustang Styling in Outdoor Furniture

Low, wide, angled back...this is the Mustang of outdoor furniture. The aptly named Cosmopolitan Mustang Outdoor Wicker Lounge Chair has a frame constructed of rust- and corrosion-proof aluminum with a baked on enamel finish. The frame is wrapped with Shintotex® woven polyurethane resin wicker, which is highly resistant to all weather and everyday wear and tear, and those gorgeous cured arm rests and feet are teak, a natural for outdoor applications.

We'd like to see a whole collection in this vein. So far just the chair is available, for $2,595 at HomeInfatuation.

Native Trails, Modern Sinks

Native Trails, you surprised me today. I saw your name, that you make "artisan crafted copper sinks" and thought, "Great, another glut of hammered sinks for that tired preppy Connecticut farmhouse look or worse, the sophisticated country strain that's going around."

I spoke too soon.

The sinks are modern, well formed, thoughtfully proportioned and high quality.

A peek...

The new designs come in a new finish - brushed nickel over copper. It imparts a modern look ready to mix with stainless steel, and carries the quality and durability of copper.

Reinventing the box

Veuve Clicquot is revealing DesignBox - its own exclusive eco-friendly gift box. Below is an interpretation of DesignBox by Tom Dixon, presented as part of an installation called "Out of The Box" at Superstudio+.

Light bys Tom Dixon

The design and production of DesignBox includes a number of innovations that also reinforce Veuve Clicquot's commitment to sustainability:
- The box is mono-material - made of just paper - which avoids difficulties associated with recycling and certain fabrication processes that are often polluting
- No plastic lamination (protective plastic film) is used in the box - with inks, glues and solvents representing less than 5% of the total weight of the product
- The paper used comes from forests under management of the FSC (Forest Stewardship Council), a non-profit organization?established to promote the responsible management of our forests
- Micro-grooving reduces the usage of paper in packaging
