Let Freedom Ring
A revised design for the first office building to be constructed on the site of the former World Trade Center was released Wednesday, June 29, by Governor George E. Pataki, Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg, World Trade Center developer Larry A. Silverstein and architect David Childs of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill. At a staggering 1,776 feet, the Freedom Tower will stand 408 feet above the taller of the original two.
Designed to emulate the classic style of New York's architecture, the new layout of the Freedom Tower will also house a state-of-the-art energy efficiency system and improvements to withstand forceful blasts.
Scheduled to begin construction in early 2006, the building is slated to be occupancy-ready in 2010.
