Let Freedom Ring
A revised design for the first office building to be constructed on the site of the former World Trade Center was released Wednesday, June 29, by Governor George E. Pataki, Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg, World Trade Center developer Larry A. Silverstein and architect David Childs of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill. At a staggering 1,776 feet, the Freedom Tower will stand 408 feet above the taller of the original two.
Designed to emulate the classic style of New York's architecture, the new layout of the Freedom Tower will also house a state-of-the-art energy efficiency system and improvements to withstand forceful blasts.
Scheduled to begin construction in early 2006, the building is slated to be occupancy-ready in 2010.

Modern Tykes
Contemporary parents no longer have to lug around heavy plastic chairs for the comfort of their little ones. Scott Klinker Product Designs' Mastodon chair, made from one sheet of PET fiber and weighing in at a svelte 1 pound, is ideal for the contemporary parent, and kid, on the go. Made individually by hand, each chair is as unique as your child. And unlike the rock-hard, harsh and usually unappealing products from leading children's products manufacturers, this gem will even find its place in your own home.

Design Craft Furniture Goes West
Good news for folks who have seen Glenn Shapiro's designs but were unable to get them if they lived west of the Mississippi. Design Craft Furniture, maker of individually made, high end contemporary case goods and dining sets for over a decade, announced it has extended its distribution to the Pacific coast.
The New York-based firm specializes in hand-painted finishes that are sealed under a 1/8” thick protective layer of optical grade acrylic, making it perhaps the most flawless finish available -- and reparable. Unlike lacquers and polyurethane, the finish can be touched up and buffed to new.
Shapiro uniquely offers retailers home-delivery service, insuring that customers receive goods -- in the way they expect it. West coast distributors and retailers can see Design Craft at the Las Vegas Furniture Market in July.
