Can Design Avert Disaster?
Just a reminder that a shockingly timely exhibit is set to open at the Museum of Modern Art, in New York City, on October 16, SAFE: Design Takes On Risk. The eerily prescient initiative by MOMA Curator Paula Antonelli invited designers from around the world to brainstorm everyday products that can make our lives safer. The New York Times carries a panel discussion between House & Home reporter William L. Hamilton and Tom de Kay, the deputy editor of the section, interviewing Antonelli and participating designers. A must read to understand the cultural dilemmas surrounding safety, design and, of course, consumerism.
