Worth the Price of a Car Seat?

Retailers who sell the Keyton all leather massage chair or the Fjords, Ekornes or American Leather all-leather recliners all have had customers express shock over the price of the chair. While certainly not inexpensive, those most voiciferous are seen driving out of parking lots in BMWs and other higher end cars -- where the leather seat package would probably equal the price of these chairs.

So what gives? Why is that we can justify the chair upgrade for a product that will deteriorate in 3 years, but not for something that will be in our homes for a decade (if not more)? Manufacturers have done a lousy job explaining why the $4000 all-leather product with the stainless legs is not worth its price tag. A car seat will never have the stress that a home product will have -- and the design, the motion, the hide and the assortment of colors aren't even in the same ballpark as a car seat.

i guess we are so numb when we buy our cars that what's the difference if you charge us another $1500 for some bucket seats. Perhaps chair manufacturers should think about selling the chairs through the developer. What's a $4000 chair when you are shelling out for a home?
