C Modern Patio Furniture Go Green

A new collection of outdoor furniture from Crate and Barrel focuses on sustainability and modern, if unsurprising, design.

Among the three collections we saw, two were well made but a bit ho-hum in the design department. We do like the Ventura Line, which Crate describes this way: Bring living room style outdoors with a lounge worthy modular couch with seat cushions and throw pillows that burst in sunset orange, sangria pink and plum.  Made with the shade in mind, the Ventura Stripe Umbrella is constructed of Sunbrella acrylic that blocks out 98% of the sun’s UV rays.

The all-weather wicker collections are hand-woven of 100% recyclable resin, and eco-conscious fabrics are used to construct the umbrellas, cushions and accent pillows.

Stuffed

 

The new Stuffed cabinet and stools by Josef Blersch and Mander Liefting of Snodevormgevers look like they've just sprung into reality from a cartoon. Each of the products is made from plates of steel and get their shape using a folding process that the studio has developed. Minus the owl or similar objects, these would be especially cute in a kid's room. Available at Wannekes.

Not just any bathroom collection will do for the most opulent architectural sites in the world. Therefore, the fixtures and coordinating bath accessories that adorn royal palaces, luxury yachts and the finest hotels and resorts need to be elegant and distinguished, and with a subtle touch of glitz. Modern design is often about functionality, and we cannot create functional pieces unless we are honest about the way we use them. Todd by llot llov is as honest a piece of furniture as I've seen. Put it in a bedroom and toss some clothes on it. Only then is it fit for sitting.

Lo-Res Chair

The digital world often forces trade-offs between two opposing preferences: speed and quality. When working with images, speed often translates to lower resolution, compressing elements to simplified shapes. Thus, the inspiration for the Lo-Res Chair. If you look closely you can see the shape of an Eames chair in the void.
